Leveraging the power of OpenDaylight and OpenStack for comprehensive and cost-effective Cyber-Defense Networks
Mike O’Malley (Radware Vice President of Strategy)

Powerful open source platforms like OpenDaylight and OpenStack are creating opportunities for Carriers to drastically redefine network level intelligence and agility. This presentation will discuss how Carriers can harness these platforms in an SDN environment to create a multi-layer Cyber Defense Network. This Intelligent, learning network can defeat the nemesis of ever increasing application threats to their wireline and wireless networks. Using rich mediation layer software, the Cyber Defense Network can be provisioned, configured and managed seamlessly across Carrier networks. Leveraging actual carrier threat examples, this presentation will demonstrate how a Cyber Defense Network can detect and mitigate threats from a variety of sources in a way that scales without manual intervention and delivers the Operational efficiencies promised by open source platforms.

Application & Network Orchestration of VNFs with TOSCA & Netconf/YANG on OpenStack
Samuel Bercovici (Radware Director of Product Management)

VNFs are becoming more and more application oriented. They require complex action to be taken, work with databases, records, processes, files — not to mention, dependencies and the order between them and external entities, and even H/A capabilities like self-healing and auto-scaling for high performance loads. The border between applications and network functions are becoming blurred in many cases. VNFs require support of application orchestration beyond network resource configuration. What’s more, since most VNFs are composed from VNFCs which are virtualized network equipment and VNFCs which are virtualized servers running software stacks, managing the lifecycle of the VNFI has both aspects of application management and network equipment management.

To this end, many Telcos and Enterprises these days are searching for modeling languages to help achieve the goal of application and network orchestration, and they are betting on OpenStack and the nature of standards-driven open source cloud to help deliver this in the real world. Where networking personnel are familiar with Netconf/YANG and application personnel are familiar with TOSCA. This talk will present a fusion of TOSCA & Netconf/YANG for application and network orchestration on OpenStack, and how they can work together to achieve this goal, as well as compare the strengths and compatibilities between TOSCA that is used to manage that application lifecycle and NetConf/YANG that is used to manage Network Equipment configuration lifecycle.
