Service Provider Keeps Gamers Playing with Cloud DDoS Protection


This global service provider identified an opportunity to provide security services to their
customers to ensure network and application availability and data breach protection. The
service provider has customers across an array of industries but found that gaming organizations experienced some of the most frequent and devastating DDoS attacks.

These attacks would impact their network availability and throughput, a serious problem for an industry whose customers (gamers) insist on availability and high-end performance for an immersive digital experience and to improve their chances to win.

While the service provider was able to provide these cloud services within their home country, they wanted to expand globally. This would require building, managing and operating the physical infrastructure, technology and resources while dealing with country-specific legislation and guidelines. A project of this magnitude would take several years to complete and cause the service provider to lose millions in potential revenue.

The service provider realized an established security partner would enable them to go to market more quickly by leveraging a proven cloud security service with already stablished global infrastructure and operations. This security service would have to seamlessly integrate with the service provider’s architecture.

The Solution

The service provider conducted a proof of concept to evaluate various security offerings. Key requirements included global support, an easy-to-use mitigation service, accurate and timely customer on-boarding, and future product development and collaboration.
The service provider, impressed with Radware’s collaborative approach and DDoS mitigation capabilities, purchased Radware’s Cloud DDoS Protection Service to secure both its own network and its customers’ networks.

When one of the service provider’s gaming customers experienced a high-bandwidth DDoS attack, Radware mitigated the attack and developed a new feature to detect and mitigate similar attacks. The chart below demonstrates how Radware’s Cloud DDoS Protection Service detected and mitigated multiple attacks, including network floods, UDP Floods, RST Floods and Mirai DDoS attacks, against gaming customers over a 12-month period. The largest attack, a SYN-ACK attack in June of 2020, reached 130Gbps.

The service provider has been able to secure their network and help gaming customers provide a high availability, high-performance gaming experience to gamers. Radware’s global cloud security footprint has allowed the service provider to expand business outside of their home country without the time and cost required to build infrastructure internationally and deal with regional regulations.

Finally, Radware and the service provider continue to work together on service integration and updates to Radware’s Cloud DDoS Service to meet the changing security requirements of gaming customers.
